Themed: ‘Assessing the plight of the elderly community in Gauteng’, GPL will convene its 2022 Sector Parliament for Senior Citizens at 10am this Friday, 21 October 2022 – at the Cullinan Library Centre (in Cullinan).

The Sitting affords Gauteng’s elderly residents a conversation platform with representatives of the Gauteng Executive to debate current policies relating to their welfare. Through this engagement, the elderly and organizations that advocate their rights ask questions, debate, and make recommendations to address some of the existing challenges resulting from policy misalignments.

The overarching goal of Senior Citizens Parliament is to facilitate conversation that leads to an enhanced quality of life for Gauteng’s elderly.

Topics to be debated include:

The high cost of living and its effects on food prices

The state of Gauteng’s old age homes

The effects of gambling among Senior Citizens looking to supplement social grants.

GPL creates this platform as part of its role to hold the Gauteng Government accountable to residents for service delivery. And this is achieved through the different Portfolio Committees of the Legislature, including: Health, Social Development, Community Safety, Human Settlements, etc.

The Sitting will also be streamed live on the Gauteng Legislature’s YouTube channel https://youtu.be/nhfyinOHSP4 and Facebook page https://fb.me/e/3891Ef63i
