FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GAUTENG PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE TO HOST 2026 YOUTH SECTOR PARLIAMENT
The Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Honourable Morakane Mosupyoe, will lead the 2026 Youth Sector Parliament as part of the Legislature’s Youth Month programme, providing a platform for young people to engage directly on issues affecting their lives and the future of the province and the country.
This year’s Youth Sector Parliament takes place at a significant moment in South Africa’s history as the nation commemorates 50 years since the historic 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising, when courageous young people stood up against injustice and helped shape the country’s democratic future.
The commemoration serves as a reminder of the enduring role of young people as catalysts for social change and nation-building.
The Youth Sector Parliament will bring together young people from across Gauteng to deliberate on some of the most pressing challenges facing the youth today, including unemployment, mental health, access to quality education and other socio-economic issues that impact their development and well-being. The platform seeks to amplify the voices of young people and encourage active participation in democratic governance and public policy.
Members of the media are invited to cover the event as follows:
Date: Thursday, 11 June 2026

Venue: Ekurhuleni West TVET College, Kathorus Campus, Gauteng
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature remains committed to strengthening participatory democracy by creating meaningful opportunities for young people to contribute to the development of policies and programmes that shape their future.
