The Portfolio Committee Chairperson William Matsheke on behalf of the Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation is saddened by the passing on of Mr. Emmanuel “Mjokes” Matsane, a Founding Member of the Trompies Kwaito Group, a legendary performer within the Arts and Culture Sector.
Gauteng Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, led by the Chairperson Honourable William Matsheke wish to send it’s heartfelt condolences to the Matsane, Trompies and Kalawa Jazzmee Families on the passing on of the legendary Kwaito Musician “Mjokes”.
“Mjokes” was a legendary Member of Trompies, he made Kwaito to be internationally recognised genre, the music of Kwaito became our gospel during the difficult time of the oppressive regime, said Chairperson Matsheke.
We are saddened as Gauteng Province and citizens to lose such a talented musician. We send our condolences to everyone who worked very closely with Mojalefa. His legacy will forever be engraved in our hearts and he passed on doing what he loved best. He was involved in a car accident after he performed at Meadowlands, Soweto.
To the fans and family of Mjokes, we must always cherish the contribution he made to the Arts and Culture Sector, especially to the Kwaito genre.
Farewell Mjokes and thanks for representing Gauteng Province very well and making Kwaito the most beautiful genre that we so loved so much. We know your contributions and many others that made sure that Kwaito never dies and never go unnoticed.
