UNRESOLVED PETITIONS ESCALATED BY COMMITTEE IN A HEARING

The Gauteng Legislature’s Standing Committee on Petitions will lead a Petitions Public Hearing at the Orlando East Community Hall, Soweto on Tuesday 20 June 2023.

The hearing will be convened to review and resolve selected adopted residents’ petitions from the City of Joburg region, which remain unresolved to date.

In accordance with the petitions system, petitions hearings are a form of escalation when authorities (after numerous extensions) do not submit reports, which are required to resolve petitions. The petitions that will be tabled during the hearing are diverse in issue, including illegal occupation of land, building of schools, RDP housing matters and the maintenance and upkeep of hostels, indicating the myriad nature of petitions.

Relevant authorities from the Gauteng Provincial Government and the City of Joburg will be on hand to answer questions and assist in the resolution of residents’ petitions.

The public hearing forms part of the Committee’s range of mechanisms that are geared towards holding Provincial Government Departments and Municipalities accountable for service delivery in communities.
