HERITAGE MEETS GOVERNANCE: CoGTA PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE TO ENGAGE AMANDEBELE KA NDZUNDZA-SOKHULUMI TRADITIONAL COUNCIL

As Heritage Month draws to a close, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), led by Acting Chairperson Hon. Ntsako Mogobe, will on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, convene a stakeholder engagement with the AmaNdebele ka Ndzundza-Sokhulumi Traditional Council at the Sokhulumi Multi-purpose Hall in Bronkhorstspruit.

Scheduled to commence at 10h00, the engagement forms part of the Committee’s ongoing commitment to strengthening relations with traditional leadership institutions and fostering collaborative partnerships that advance responsive, inclusive, and participatory governance across Gauteng.

The engagement will provide a platform for constructive dialogue between the Portfolio Committee and the Amakhosi of the AmaNdebele ka Ndzundza-Sokhulumi Traditional Council. Discussions will focus on the role of traditional leadership in community development, governance, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Taking place at the conclusion of Heritage Month, the engagement also presents an opportunity to reflect on the enduring contribution of traditional leadership and traditional communities to South Africa’s constitutional democracy.

Traditional leadership remains an integral pillar of South Africa’s governance system, with its recognition and functioning guided by the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act, 2019 (Act No. 3 of 2019). The programme will be led by Acting Chairperson Hon. Ntsako Mogobe and will feature participation from the AmaNdebele ka Ndzundza-Sokhulumi Traditional Council, Gauteng Premier Hon. Panyaza Lesufi, and MEC for Infrastructure Development and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Jacob Mamabolo.

The engagement underscores the Committee’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between government and traditional leadership in support of accountable governance, social cohesion, and sustainable community development.
