Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela will on Tuesday, 12 December 2023 brief Members of the Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety, on plans to address high levels of crime in the Diepsloot Policing Precinct.

Crime in Diepsloot is reported to be highly out of control with the area being regarded as one of the most dangerous townships in the province.

Just over a week ago, Community Members in Diepsloot took the law into their own hands and brutally killed 7 suspected criminals.

It is based on the above that the Committee has called this urgent meeting to be kept abreast on the latest plans to keep the Community of Diepsloot safe and alleviate their fears of living in a crime infested area.

The Portfolio Committee has also requested the Provincial Police Commissioner to brief the Committee on Safety Plans for the Festive Season to ensure that residents of Gauteng and those who are visiting the Province are safe.
