The Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has today conducted an oversight visit at a roadblock on Moloto Road close to Mamelodi as part of its programme of monitoring the enforcement of the National Disaster Act  by law enforcement officers during alert level 3.

The Committee interacted with law enforcement officers stationed at the roadblock including various motorists and commuters using the road.

The Committee was generally pleased with the compliance of motorists and commuters in adhering to the set regulations aimed at curbing the spread of the Coronavirus.

During its oversight visit the Committee noted the deployment of a Mobile Police Station at the roadblock equipped with an office and holding cells to detain persons suspected to have contravened any lockdown regulations or committed any other form of crime.

The Committee commended Gauteng SAPS and the Department of Community Safety for such an initiative that will assist in improving the visibility of Police presence and fight crime in hotspot areas.

More oversight visit will be conducted by the Committee on various law enforcement operations across the province to monitor the work of authorities.

The Committee calls upon residents of Gauteng to continue adhering to the set regulations in effort to fight and defeat the Coronavirus.
