The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety will conduct an oversight visit to the Rabie Ridge Police Station in Tembisa on Friday, 9 February 2024, to address growing concerns over vigilantism and crime levels within the Policing Precinct.

Recent events, including the tragic stoning of five suspected criminals by members of the Rabie Ridge community, who have highlighted the urgent need for intervention and dialogue. The suspects, accused of various crimes in the area, were subjected to vigilantism, reflecting a breakdown in trust between the community and law enforcement agencies.

During the visit, the Committee aims to engage with police officials to understand the factors contributing to the erosion of community confidence and the escalation of vigilantism. Seeking answers from police management, the Committee will inquire into strategies aimed at restoring trust, reducing crime, and enhancing safety in Rabie Ridge.

Media representatives are invited to attend the site visit and engage with Committee Members and police officials to gain insight into the challenges facing the community and the collaborative efforts underway to address them.
