Aims of the NHI Bill

The NHI Bill aims to make quality health care services available to everyone in the Republic, as stated in section 27 of the Constitution. It plans to create a National Health Insurance Fund, and will outline its powers, functions, and how it will be managed. The bill will provide a structure for the Fund to strategically purchase health care services on behalf of its users. It also aims to ensure that the Fund’s resources are used fairly, effectively, and efficiently to meet the health needs of the population. Lastly, the bill will put measures in place to prevent or limit undesirable, unethical, and unlawful practices related to the Fund and its users.
