The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Development & Property Management will on Friday, 24 November 2023 visit to LG Holele Secondary School (Kgatoenthle Secondary School) in Ga-Rankuwa. 

The purpose of the visit to the school is to assess whether the R110 million allocated for the construction of the school is being spent effectively to better the delivery of quality education for the children of Ga-Rankuwa and surrounding.

The Committee has been conducting oversight visits to various education infrastructure development projects across the Province and has been concerned about the poor workmanship in some projects, projects being abandoned before completion, the impact of “construction mafias” and unnecessary delays in completion of projects.

All these challenges result in the Provincial Government having to spend more money in completing projects, money which could have been spent elsewhere to provide functional educational facilities for the learners of Gauteng.

These are challenges which are of grave concern to the Committee and has prompted the Committee to conduct an oversight visit to LG Holele Secondary School to engage the School Management Team, Officials of the Department of Infrastructure Development as well as the main contractor on the progress being made and make a determination on whether there is value in the funds allocated for the project.

Oversight visits like these, provide the Committee with the opportunity to intervene where necessary and bring result driven solutions by fast tracking the delivery of quality education facilities in the Province.
