HEALTH COMMITTEE WELCOMES REPORT ON INVESTIGATION INTO THE DEATH OF MR SHONISANE LETHOLE AT TEMBISA HOSPITAL
The Portfolio Committee of Health welcomes the findings by the Health Ombudsman on the investigation into the death of Mr Shonisani Lethole at the Tembisa Hospital.
The Portfolio Committee hope that the findings will turn the tide on substandard and negligent care practices to ensure patients receive appropriate care in all our health facilities. As an oversight body, the Portfolio Committee recognises issues raised in the report especially on the appalling clinical record-keeping at the Hospital and thank the Ombudsman for bringing all these important issues to light.
The Portfolio Committee fully support the recommendations pronounced by the Health Ombudsman including that action be taken against the 19 Tembisa hospital staff for negligent care provided to the late Mr Lethole. The Portfolio Committee believe that there must be genuine accountability and meaningful consequences for such uncaring attitudes and negligent behaviour.
