The Acting Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Honourable Vuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela, has expressed profound shock and deep sorrow at the sudden passing of a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Honourable Lindiwe Mkhwanazi.
On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, the Acting Speaker extends heartfelt condolences to the Mkhwanazi family, friends, colleagues and the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, which entrusted her with the responsibility to serve the people of Gauteng in the Legislature.
Honourable Mkhwanazi’s untimely passing has sent shockwaves across the broader Gauteng Provincial Legislature community.
Her absence will be deeply felt, particularly within the Committees of the Legislature where she served with diligence, integrity and unwavering commitment to public service.
She will be remembered as a dedicated and compassionate public representative who carried her responsibilities with humility and purpose.
Beyond her formal legislative duties, Honourable Mkhwanazi played a pivotal role as a member of the Multi-Party Women’s Caucus, where she championed the advancement of women’s rights and interests within the Legislature and across communities in Gauteng.
Her commitment to social upliftment extended far beyond the corridors of the Legislature. She was actively involved in community work, supporting vulnerable groups including child-headed households, individuals without support systems and students in need of guidance and access to educational opportunities. Through these efforts, she became a source of hope and practical assistance to many who faced hardship.
“The passing of Honourable Mkhwanazi is not only a loss to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, but to the many communities whose lives she touched with compassion and dedication. We have lost a servant of the people whose work spoke louder than words and whose legacy will endure in the lives she helped shape,” said Acting Speaker Mhlakaza-Manamela.
