The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Transport and Logistics Portfolio Committee, led by Chairperson Honourable Gregory Schneemann, pledges its support for Gauteng’s festive season road safety campaign. The Campaign, called #Fatela which means to take care, was launched recently by the MEC for Roads and Transport and is aimed at creating awareness on the importance of road safety and to encourage good driver behaviour to reduce road carnage during this festive period.

The focus of the Committee is on all road users both motorists and pedestrians as people are expected to travel to other provinces and neighbouring countries in large numbers and traffic volumes are ordinarily expected to increase.

According to statistics, Gauteng, road accidents remain at high levels especially during festive season and which are caused by among others, a lack of adherence to road signs, disobeying traffic rules; driving under the influence of alcohol and generally bad driver behaviour which remains a serious problem.

The Committee is calling on all road users to commit to follow all rules of the road at all times and to ensure the safety of their life and that of other road users and pledge to be a responsible and caring

  • driver
  • passenger
  • pedestrian
  • cyclist

The Committee would also like emphasize the visibility and efficiency of all traffic law enforcement agencies on our roads during this festive season to ensure motorists adhere to traffic rules.
