The annual Vita Basadi Awards have become synonymous with the Legislature’s program to commemorate Women’s Month; where Honourable Speaker, Ntombi Mekgwe, recognizes excellence by Gauteng women in various fields of work and voluntary service to community.

This year’s instalment of the awards will take place on the evening of Thursday, 31 August 2017, as women who were nominated by their fellow community members will be honoured for their contribution towards community development. These are women who make a positive impact in their communities without reward.

After successfully launching with just five categories in 2015, the Awards have grown in stature, and this year will see categories being extended to ten. And of the ten, eight are open for public nominations, which include the following:

  • Outstanding Youth Philanthropist Award
  • Community Heroine Award
  • Community Builder of the Year Award
  • Woman of Honour Award
  • Unsung Legend Award
  • The Guardian Award
  • Young Dignitary Award
  • Outstanding Creative Award All nominations received from community members that put forward the names of their deserving award recipients were subjected to an independent adjudication process. The nomination process was opened to the public throughout June and July 2017. Members of the media are invited to this prestigious event. Your confirmation of attendance is imperative.

Details of the Award Ceremony are as follows:

Date:  Thursday, 31 August 2017
