The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature excused officials from the Department of Human Settlements from the hearing convened for today to deal with the status on the implementation of the house resolutions by the Department. The Standing Committee took the decision to excuse the Department from the hearing because of the absence of the MEC Hon. Paul Mashatile who was expected to lead the Department in responding to questions.

The committee expressed its disappointment at the MEC’s absence as it regards the Executive Authority as accountable to the committee and the Gauteng Legislature and expected the MEC to prioritise the meeting.

The meeting will be rescheduled for a later date and the MEC will be expected to lead the Department in responding to the questions to be raised by the Standing Committee.

Issued by: Hon. Mbongeni Radebe, Chairperson of SCOPA at the Gauteng Provincial Legislature
