GPL TO CONVENE ANNUAL YOUTH SECTOR PARLIAMENT
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) will on Friday, 22 July 2022 gather young people from across the province to participate in the Annual Youth Sector Parliament. The 2022 Annual Youth Sector Parliament will be convened under the theme “Gauteng Legislature, following up on our commitments to the Youth of Gauteng”.
The purpose of the sector parliament is to create and provide a platform for the youth of Gauteng to participate and debate issues relevant to them, and to propose solutions which will be tabled as House Resolutions which will then be referred to the various government departments and their agencies for action and implementation.
The Sector Parliament is an important platform for youth to address their elected public representatives in the Legislature and the Provincial Government – concerning their daily plight in this difficult economy.
The youth will propose solutions to their challenges and charge the Provincial Government to action these resolutions with set timelines and provide feedback. The youth gathered will also give a fresh mandate to the legislature as a watchdog for an efficient provincial government.
Topics to be debated during the 2022 Youth Sector Parliament are as follows:
- Participatory Democracy: The importance of youth participation in politics and voting
- The role of SMMEs in addressing youth unemployment
