GAUTENG PROVINCIAL POLICE COMMISSIONER TO BRIEF COMMITTEE ON 3RD QUARTER CRIME STATS FOR 2025/26 FINANCIAL YEAR
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety will on Thursday, 5 March 2026 receive a detailed briefing from the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni, on the 3rd Quarter Crime Statistics for the 2025/26 Financial Year.
The briefing will focus on crime trends between October and December 2025 and will provide an overview of key developments in the fight against crime in the Province.
This reporting period coincides with the festive season, which is traditionally associated with increased criminal activity. The Committee will therefore interrogate the statistics to assess policing effectiveness, identify areas of concern and consider measures to strengthen crime prevention and public safety during the peak periods.
In addition to the crime statistics briefing, part of the session will be dedicated to signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and Gun Free South Africa. The MoU seeks to formalize cooperation and joint interventions aimed at promoting responsible gun control and advance the shared objective of creating a gun free Gauteng.
Details of the Briefing are as follows:
Date: Thursday, 5 March 2026
Time: 9h00
Venue: The Fairway Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort (Setperk Road, Randpark)
Members of the media are invited to cover the briefing. Opportunities for interviews will be available prior and following the session.
