Plans to up crime prevention in Gauteng

The Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and administrative heads of Metro Police Departments from Gauteng’s metro municipalities will collaborate to beef up crime prevention.

Speaker Leads Youth Career Expo

Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature, Honourable Ntombi Mekgwe, recently hosted a Youth Career Expo at Lufhureni and Siyabuswa secondary schools, where useful skills and career development information was shared with learners at the two schools and the local unemployed youth.
Speaker said, “The expo provided a one-stop-shop for the youth to learn about accessible resources and opportunities to develop their careers.”

Committee engages Gauteng communities about the revised Expropriation Bill

Earlier this month, the Legislature’s Portfolio on Infrastructure Development & Property Management held a series of public hearings across the regions of the province, to discuss and gather public input on the Expropriation Bill. Chairperson, Honourable Mpho Modise, led the Committee’s public hearings.

Youth discusses SA’s political landscape in GPL’s voter education campaign

As a non-partisan State organization, the GPL has a fundamental responsibility to educate the people of Gauteng about the importance of democratic elections and their participation in them. This responsibility is related to the Legislature’s duty as the lawmaker and overseer of provincial government efficiency in Gauteng – a role the GPL fulfils without bias to any political party as required by the Constitution.

Social Development Committee investigates process of NPO funding in Gauteng

The Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Social Development is currently probing how the Gauteng Department of Social Development manages the process of funding Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) in the Province.

Budget vote process for 2023/2024 financial year

As part of implementing the Legislature’s oversight and public participation mandates, GPL Committees recently help public meetings to scrutinize the budget of Provincial Government Departments for the current financial year, 2023/2024. The meetings took place at different venues across Gauteng where the GPL afforded residents an opportunity to look at departments’ budgets aligned to annual performance plans and ask critical questions to justify allocated funds.

Vita Basadi Awards nomination process now open

As Women’s Month draws nearer, the process of nominating deserving volunteers for the Gauteng Legislature’s 2023 Vita Basadi Awards is now open. Gauteng residents from every part of the province can nominate remarkable Women volunteers who have make contribute to the welfare of their communities in different ways.

Committee concerned over budget cuts that affect projects

Chairperson of the Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements, Honourable Alphina Ndlovana, recently expressed concern over budget cuts that “worsen Gauteng’s housing backlog, thus subjecting residents to some inhumane living conditions”.
