The Honourable Chairperson of Committees, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will launch the Chairperson of Committees Sub- Forum of the Gauteng Speaker’s Forum (GSF) on Thursday, 16 March 2017.
The GSF is a voluntary association for Speakers of all Gauteng Municipalities as well as the Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL). The GSF has been established as a platform for the sharing of parliamentary business practices amongst all Gauteng Speakers with a view to establishing common provincial norms, standards and best practices for legislative work. The GSF will create the capacity to undertake such legislative work in the Province.
The functions of Chairperson of Committees Sub-Forum will be as follows:
- Act as a forum for facilitating learning and capacity building exercises for legislative committees in the Province
- Advocate for policies towards strengthening the work of committees at provincial and municipal legislatures
- Provide a platform for facilitating the establishment of common norms, standards and best practices of committee work in the province
The Chairperson of Committees Sub-Forum shall comprise of all Portfolio and Standing Committee Chairpersons from the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
The launch of the forum will take place in a form of a seminar where there will be breakaway sessions with three commissions each dealing with two critical matters of strategic oversight governance and management framework.
