GAUTENG PROVINCIAL LEGISLATURE TO HOST 2026 CHILDREN’S SECTOR PARLIAMENT
The Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Honourable Morakane Mosupyoe, will lead the 2026 Children’s Sector Parliament, providing a platform for children from across Gauteng to engage directly with public representatives on issues affecting their rights, development and future.
The Children’s Sector Parliament forms part of the Legislature’s ongoing commitment to promoting public participation. Held under the theme, “A Nation That Works for All”, the programme will bring together child delegates from Gauteng’s five regions to deliberate on key issues affecting children and young people. Discussions will focus on the plight of children from “missing middle” households, the harmful effects of gambling on children, and a review of the History curriculum from a child’s perspective.
The platform will provide children with an opportunity to share their experiences, raise concerns, propose solutions and contribute to discussions aimed at strengthening policies and programmes that advance the rights and well-being of children.
The Gauteng Provincial Legislature recognises that children are important stakeholders in society and remains committed to creating meaningful opportunities for their participation in decision-making processes. Through the Children’s Sector Parliament, the Legislature seeks to nurture a generation of informed, engaged and active citizens who can contribute positively to the development of Gauteng and South Africa.
Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, representatives from the Provincial Government, education sector stakeholders, child rights organisations and various public institutions are expected to participate in the programme.
