Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Development of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature will embark on oversight visits this week to infrastructure projects in the Gauteng Province. The site visits emanates from complaints received from contractors by the Portfolio Committee with regards to non-payments and late payments of contractors and suppliers by the Department of Infrastructure Development.

Press Alert: SOM Press Alert . GPL launches South African Legislative Sector Oversight Model. The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) led by the GPL Speaker Hon. Lindiwe Maseko, will launch the nation-wide Sector Oversight Model (SOM). The South African Legislative Sector Model was developed in consultation with various stakeholders by the National Speakers’ Forum with Hon. Lindiwe Maseko as the project champion. A first of its kind, SOM was developed as a standard model to be used by South African Parliament and Legislatures as a mechanism to hold Government accountable.

Lindiwe Maseko has received disturbing news on the passing on, of yet another Member, Hon. Dr. Gavin Lewis who passed on last night.  The news comes to the GPL, as we still come to terms with the tragic and untimely death of MEC of Economic Development, Hon Nkosiphendule Kolisile. Both Members had served diligently in the Economic Development committee of the GPL.

Statement of the GPL on the tragic passing of MEC Nkosiphendule Kholisile . The Gauteng Provincial Legislature has received news on the tragic and unforeseen passing of MEC Nkosiphendule Kholisile. His untimely death comes at a time when the MEC had made such a significant impact in his tenure as MEC of Economic Development. The MEC has diligently served in the Gauteng Legislature as a member and Chairperson of the Economic development committee.

  Statement of Gauteng Prov Govt (GPG) on passing of MEC, Nkosiphendule Kolisile 20 July 2013. The Executive Council of the Gauteng Provincial Government, Officials and the community at large mourns the passing of Economic Development MEC, Nkosiphendule Kolisile, following a motor accident in the Free State Province in the early hours of this morning. The accident that happened on the N6 route in Raddersburg also claimed the lives of his driver, Seargant Motsie and his protector Constable Jobo. The MEC was en-route to a funeral in the Eastern Cape.

Media Release Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission .The Gauteng Provincial Legislature Health Portfolio Committee note the progress that has been made by the Gauteng Department of Health in reducing transmission of HIV to newly born babies.In the 2012/13 financial year as per the 4th Quarterly Report of the Gauteng Department of Health to the Health Portfolio. Committee, only 1,1% of babies born in Gauteng were HIV positive. (When Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV programme was launched in 2003, the rate of transmission was around 10%) This is commendable progress because in real terms it means 98,9% of babies delivered at Gauteng public hospitals are HIV free. This achievement is attributed to the Department’s drive to test pregnant women at 20 weeks.

MEDIA ADVISORY 13 May 2010 GAUTENG DEPARTMENTS TO APPEAR BEFORE SCOPA Gauteng departments of Education, Health and Gauteng Shared Services Centre (GSSC) will appear before SCOPA of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on Friday 14 May at 09h00 in the Auditorium. The hearings will be looking at the performance audit of entities that are connected with Gauteng government employees and doing business with departments of Gauteng provincial administration. The report of the Auditor-General indicates that over 100 employees in the Education department who are directors or members of companies did business totaling R20 million with their own department and other departments. And that over 50 employees in the Health and Social Development department did business totaling R4million with their own department and other departments. At GSSC an amount totaling over R800 000 was paid to the companies connected to several employees. The departments are expected to explain whether investigations were conducted regarding all employees implicated and what actions were taken against them. The anti-apartheid and ANC stalwart Dr Ahmed Kathrada will address a special sitting of the Gauteng Legislature to celebrate Human Rights Day and Freedom Day. Kathrada, together with Nelson Mandela and others, was one of the longest serving political prisoners held on Robben Island. Dr. Kathrada will make a speech relating to where we are on the issue of human rights. He will also give his vision on our continued pursuit to strengthen our democracy in our beloved country.
