A 2011 report by the UN Human Rights Office found an alarming pattern of brutal violence and widespread discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people in all regions of the world. In consideration of the Legislature’s initiative of “Taking the Legislature to the People”, the second 2015 LGBTI Sector Parliament will be held in the City of Tshwane. The choice of the region is informed by the rotation of sector parliaments across the regions of Gauteng.

The Provincial Week of 14 to 18 September 2015 is intended focus on assessing progress on three categories of strategic infrastructure projects (SIPs) across all nine provinces. In 2006, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) produced “The State of Municipal  Infrastructure In South Africa and its Operation and Maintenance” and a document titled “Towards a framework for the maintenance of municipal infrastructure: In support of government growth objectives”, which both highlight the enormous challenges and stress facing service delivery infrastructure in municipalities in the nine provinces. Both reports highlight that poor design and construction, together probably with inappropriate operation, has led to breakdown of infrastructure for water and sanitation, electricity and municipal roads and storm water drainage, libraries and clinics.

In an effort to celebrate women influence and power, the Speaker to the Legislature, Ms Ntombi Mekgwe will in collaboration with MEC for Gauteng SRAC, Ms Molebatsi Bopape host an Empowerment Seminar and Gala Banquet which should celebrate women who have continued to make significant impact in their communities and in their areas of work.  The proposed theme is: “Women in dialogue Celebrating the dawn of democracy and creating opportunities with impact”
